  ‘I think hot rock goes in the spout of the black hose,’ said Kai. ‘Then the hose turns it to ice. Then it shoots it back out the spout of the blue hose.’

  ‘Takes hot rock and makes cold rock!’ said BC. ‘Let’s try it.’

  ‘Yes,’ said Kai. ‘The beast is smashing the wall. We have to hurry.’

  Kai and BC were in the jet. They were hovering over the Volcan land.

  ‘We need to land,’ said Kai. ‘Then we need to use the drill. We must drill down into the ground. Down to where the lava is made.’

  ‘Where is all the hot lava made?’ asked BC.

  ‘In the magma chamber,’ said Kai. ‘Down at the bottom of the volcano.’

  Kai fired up the jet’s engines. They flew quietly over the Volcan land. Kai landed on the other side of the volcano. Away from the flowing lava. Kai changed the jet to drill mode. Then he turned on the front drill.

  Kai and BC drilled down under the volcano. But the beast had heard them. It turned. Then it came after them.

  It went into the tunnel that Kai had dug.

  ‘It’s catching up to us,’ said BC. ‘And it’s throwing lava balls.’

  Kai pushed the rapid-chill button again.

  The spouts turned to face the beast. BC used his four paws to work the joysticks. He caught the lava balls. Then he shot ice balls back at the beast.

  Kai kept digging. When he made it to the magma chamber he stopped. ‘Here is where the lava is made,’ said Kai.

  Kai climbed out. He looked at the lava bubbling out.

  It was bubbling up from a strange looking hole.

  ‘That hole is the same shape as my sword,’ said Kai. He pushed the light-ice sword into the hole. The sword locked in. The lava stopped. Then the sword glowed an eerie blue. Everything turned to ice. And so did the beast.

  ‘The beast is all frozen,’ said BC.

  ‘Yes,’ said Kai. ‘It is frozen in a frozen land. Let’s drive back out and see.’

  Kai and BC drove back up onto land. Everything in the land had turned to ice. ‘It’s like the ice in the Isolus land!’ said BC. ‘Isolus beast could live here now.’

  ‘Don’t be silly, BC,’ said Kai. ‘There is ash in all this ice. And you couldn’t have a Volcan ice beast. That would be nuts.’

  But was it so nutty? Kai had brought ice and water to the Volcano land. And the land was now changed forever.

  ‘It’s time for us to go, BC,’ said Kai. He took out his orb. Kai keyed in

  Bright light shone on Kai and BC.

  Then the light shot back up into the sky. It took Kai and BC with it. Back home to the lighthouse. Earth was safe again. But not for long...
