  Long ago beast and man shared one world. Then they began to battle.

  After many battles the world was split in two. Beasts were given Beastium. Man was given Earth.

  A border-wall was made. It closed the two worlds off.

  The beasts tried to get through the border-wall many times. The Border Guards had to stop them. Border Guards were trained to defend the border-wall. Battles won by beasts made beasts stronger. Battles won by guards earned them new battle gear. And they got new upgrades. Then their battle gear could do more.

  Five guards now defend the border-wall. Their work is top secret. They battle and learn. One day they will become Border Masters. Just like their dads. But first they must learn and become Border Captains.

  Their dads were also Border Guards once. They kept learning until they became Border Masters.

  And now they make up the Bordaria Master Command. The BMC. The BMC help the Border Guards during battle. They show them how to defend the wall. They give the Border Guards new battle gear.

  The guards must earn their new battle gear. They need to learn from their battles. And from their mistakes.

  Kai Masters is a Border Captain. He must work with others and win his leader’s badge. Kai must learn more about the beasts. He cannot fail.

  The Outlands was a large beast park. The park was closed off from Beastium by a fence and gates. The BMC created the park so they could learn about the beasts.

  Border Guards put the mutant beasts inside the park. They didn’t know then that the Outlands was a BMC research park. Now that Kai Masters is a captain he knows. He also knows that the BMC put a computer chip in each beast’s neck. The chip collects data on the beasts.

  Kai Masters must use the beast data to learn more about the beasts. He must use what he learns to battle smarter.

  It was a cold, stormy night. Kai Masters was in his science lab. BC3, his dog-bot battle buddy was with him.

  Kai used the science lab to do tests and make new things. Things that could help him battle better as a Border Captain.

  Kai looked at his jars and test tubes. They were bubbling away over the small fire burners. Green and blue liquid dripped through tubes into more jars and test tubes.

  ‘I made the Battle-All Tool in this science lab, BC,’ said Kai. ‘The BAT makes sure our gadgets aren’t bad for the lands. Now we can use any gadget in any land we like. And now, I’m going to make something else!’

  ‘What?’ asked BC.

  ‘A drink that can make battle buddies grow bigger,’ answered Kai with a big smile. ‘The mega-mutants grew when they changed in our last battle. It got me thinking. Maybe I could make something that would let you do that.’

  BC tilted his head to the side. ‘That would be excellent,’ BC said. ‘I hope it works. But will I go back to normal size?’

  ‘Yes,’ said Kai as he wiped his hand across his forehead. ‘It’s getting hot. I’ll turn the fan above the burners on.’

  ‘I’m very itchy,’ said BC scratching at his fake fur.

  Kai had turned BC’s fur coat on when they were out walking earlier. It made BC look like a real dog.

  ‘I forgot you still had your fur coat on,’ said Kai.

  Kai hit the button to turn BC’s fur coat off. Bits of BC’s fur began to move inside his metal body.

  Kai laughed. Then he said, ‘One day I will make all your fur go in at once. You look so funny right now!’

  ‘That feels better,’ said BC once all his fur had gone. ‘This storm is terrible. So much rain and thunder.’

  ‘At least the hail has stopped,’ said Kai. ‘They were big balls of ice.’

  ‘It’s your orbix,’ said BC.

  Kai took his orb from his pocket. ‘Yes,’ he said. ‘It’s a BMC alert.’

  Kai turned off the fire burners. He put some tubes and jars in the freezer. Then he said, ‘Come on, BC. We’re needed in the Captain’s control room.’

  Kai and BC stood in the lift. The lift travelled up and down inside the lighthouse. It also went underground where many of Kai’s Border Captain rooms were hidden. ‘Underground level 3,’ Kai said loudly.

  The lift began to move.

  When the lift reached the control room its doors opened. Kai and BC stepped into the room.

  ‘I need to start the computers with my new Captain Card,’ Kai said. He reached into his pocket for his card.

  Kai pushed the card into the slot. A beast loaded onto the screen.

  ‘I hope this isn’t a mutant beast again,’ said BC.

  ‘Couldn’t be,’ said Kai. ‘The BMC said the Outland gates were down for only a few seconds. Not enough time for more mutants to get out.’

  When Kai saw the whole beast he knew he was wrong. ‘That thing’s a mix of three beasts I think.’ Then he saw the words Chillterratan Mutant. ‘At least it isn’t a mega-mutant, BC. It’s in the ice land.’

  ‘We haven’t battled this beast before,’ said BC.

  ‘No,’ said Kai. He looked up the beast on his BMC captain’s watch. ‘It has less rock beast in it but that will change if it becomes a mega-mutant.’

  ‘Another beast is loading on screen two,’ said BC.

  ‘Not two beasts to battle again!’ said Kai.

  Three heads moved onto the screen.

  ‘I don’t need to see any more, BC,’ Kai said. ‘I’d know those three heads anywhere. It’s the mutant Terraserpix that we battled in the rock land.’

  The beast finished loading. Then BC said, ‘And it’s in Isolus, too. Double trouble.’

  ‘Yes, we need to build a team and go to the ice land,’ said Kai. ‘Before these two mutants find each other.’

  Two mutants were loose in the ice land. Kai knew what he had to do.

  ‘I’ll check the battle files to see who battled Chillterratan,’ Kai said. He hit the Border Guard Battle Files button.

  A list of names came onto the screen. Kai waited. Then one name started flashing.

  ‘This guard lives in a castle!’ Kai said.

  ‘Our lighthouse is way better than a castle,’ said BC twitching his nose.

  Kai smiled then clicked on the name. Will Ritter’s battle file came onto the screen.

  ‘He’s battled the beast,’ said Kai. ‘I’ll send him a text message.’

  ‘To meet us in the ice land,’ said BC.

  ‘Yes,’ said Kai as he sent the message to Will on his orb. ‘Now, let’s go get our gear, BC.’

  Kai walked over to the doors at the back of the room. The doors slowly opened.

  ‘We’ll do our ride first,’ Kai said. He walked over to the touch screen. ‘We need something that can fly and go on icy land,’ said Kai.

  Kai flicked through the rides and stopped at something new. ‘This looks awesome,’ he said. ‘It zooms along the ice and can fly like a jet.’

  ‘And it has a seat for me up top!’ said BC.

  ‘That is a good battling spot for you, BC!’ said Kai. ‘We’ll take this ride.’

  Kai hit the button for the Jet-Luge 500. Then he went to look at the battle gear on the walls.

  ‘Is it the BMC again?’ asked BC.

  ‘No,’ said Kai as he looked at his orb. ‘It’s a text message from Will. He’s leaving for the ice land in the Ice Jet.’

  ‘What gadget is he bringing?’ asked BC.

  ‘The Net Shooter,’ said Kai. ‘That’s good. But we need to hurry. Let’s grab our gear and go.’

  ‘Will we take
the Super-Zap-6?’ asked BC looking at the ray shooter.

  ‘Not for the ice land,’ said Kai. ‘Look! The X-Foam Archer’s had an upgrade. It shoots fire now as well as rocks, dirt and arrows. I’m taking it.’

  Kai took the X-Foam Archer 2 from the wall. Then he and BC headed for the lift.

  ‘To the transport chamber,’ Kai said once he and BC were safely in the lift.

  The lift moved quickly to the floor above then stopped. ‘There’s our ride,’ Kai said as he picked BC up. ‘I’ll strap you in your seat. It’s high up.’

  Kai also strapped himself in then took out his orb. He keyed in the codes for the ice land.

  The chamber doors opened and the Jet-Luge 500 shot out from the tunnel to Beastium.

  Kai and BC flew into a heavy storm. ‘I’ve never seen anything like this in the ice land,’ Kai said into his headset mouthpiece.

  ‘It’s raining ice,’ said BC. ‘We are in the ice land but why is the storm so bad?’

  ‘We’re close to the wind land border,’ said Kai.

  ‘It’s hard to see,’ said BC.

  ‘I’ve turned on your eye-windscreen wipers,’ said Kai. ‘I’m flying further into the ice land now. The storm will be behind us soon.’

  But the storm got worse. Ice shards came down hard on the Jet-Luge.

  Then Kai heard a noise.

  ‘Hail stones,’ said Kai as he tried to dodge them. ‘But these ones are massive ice balls!’

  ‘I’ll get them with my eye lasers,’ said BC. He opened fire and hit a huge ball headed for the cockpit.

  The giant ice ball exploded into a pile of burning dirt.

  ‘Inside those ice balls is fire and dirt,’ said Kai staring. ‘And the outside is thick, hard ice. They have to be coming from a mutant.’

  ‘Mutant pests,’ said a voice through the cockpit speakers. ‘Will Ritter reporting in for battle.’

  ‘Where have you been?’ asked Kai.

  ‘I got caught in a freak storm,’ said Will. ‘The ice balls are coming from a swarm of flying rock snakes.’

  ‘Flying ice-rock snakes,’ said Kai. ‘I see them too now.’

  Kai quickly looked up the pests on his watch.

  ‘They’re mega-mutant pests,’ Kai told Will. ‘Use your BG Net Shooter. Try and net them up. Then put them to sleep with the net’s sleeping gas. We’ll take care of the ice balls so you can fly straight in.’

  ‘Going in now,’ said Will.

  Kai used the Jet-Luge’s front shooters to destroy the ice balls. BC spun round in his seat. He shot his eye lasers at the ice balls that were coming from all directions. ‘Keep it up, BC,’ said Kai. ‘Will is going in now.’

  Kai watched as a beast-net flew from Will’s cockpit and wrapped itself around the swarm of pests.

  ‘Hitting them with sleep gas now,’ said Will.

  The mega-mutant pests stopped moving inside the net. Then the net floated away.

  ‘More trouble below,’ said BC.

  Kai looked down. ‘The two beasts have found each other,’ he said. ‘They’re battling on the ice.’

  The two beasts were locked in battle. ‘Don’t let the beasts see you,’ Kai said to Will. ‘We need to surprise them. Hover while I get some beast data.’

  ‘Okay,’ said Will.

  Kai took a photo of a beast on his orb. The image popped onto the Jet-Luge’s screen.

  ‘The Chillterratan beast you battled before is now a mega-mutant,’ Kai said to Will. ‘It is bigger and has a lot more power. I’ll check the other beast now. Then we can make some battle plans.’

  Kai took a photo of the other beast. He watched as the image popped onto the screen.

  ‘This one has begun to change as well,’ Kai said. ‘It has ice down its back now. But it isn’t a full mega-mutant yet.’

  ‘Look! The other beast is going to do a four-tail attack,’ said BC. ‘You battled this beast when it was a mutant, Will. Go in and do what you did in your last battle but watch out for changes. We’ll handle the other beast. Battle team go!’

  ‘Sending Squirrel-bot SQ1 in now,’ said Will. ‘He’ll grab the beast by its nose.’

  ‘BC, fly out above the three heads,’ said Kai. ‘Keep them looking up at you. I’ll use the X-Foam Archer 2 on its arms.’

  BC scratched behind his ear and his jet pack popped out onto his back. The he flew off towards the beast with three heads.

  I’ll plug up the arm shooting fireballs with rocks first, thought Kai. Then I’ll dry out the arm shooting water.

  Kai watched BC as he flew around the three heads. Those heads don’t know where to look first. Good job, BC. Now it’s time for me to go in.

  Kai flew in and fired rock after rock into the beast’s arm shooting fireballs.

  One arm blocked, he thought and then he took a quick look at SQ1.

  He’s locked his tail onto the other beast’s ice nose. It’s pulled the beast’s head back. It can’t do any ice-flick attacks anymore like that. Smart move, SQ1.

  Kai watched as Will’s beast tried to free itself from the nose lock. Then he saw Will fly in to shoot a beast net round its head. Nice work, thought Kai. He’ll have it asleep with the sleeping gas in no time! I’ll dry up my beast’s water arm now with the new fire shooter.

  Then there was an enormous noise.

  Kai looked. Will’s beast was stomping on the ice. It was angry.

  Kai turned the Jet-Luge around. Then he saw the beast’s tails. He knew it was getting ready to do a triple pulver-slam attack. ‘Get away from the three pulver-slam tails, Will,’ he said. But the beast was too fast. Its three pulver-slam tails flew up and flicked Will’s jet. It was sent tumbling towards the storm land.

  Will’s jet was thrown into the storm land.

  The three-headed beast moved fast. It attacked the other beast while it was still looking up at Will. It sent the beast rolling along the ice. And then Kai’s beast changed into a full mega-mutant.

  The battle team flew away just as the massive mega-mutant fell.

  It landed hard and the ice beneath it cracked. Pieces of ice flew up at the team as they flew away.

  The battle team hovered high above the two mega-mutants. The three-headed mega-mutant was now standing again. Its tails whipped about madly and it had thrown off the netting on its heads. Its three heads let out three loud roars.

  ‘The other one will be on its feet soon too,’ said Kai.

  We battled well flying in together, thought Kai. If only we could join our jets to fly in and battle as a double jet. Maybe the BMC can help.

  Kai sent a text message to the BMC. A reply came back straight away. ‘We’ve been given an upgrade,’ Kai said to Will. ‘I can join my ride with yours to make one new awesome battle jet. The joining gear is on the bottom of my Jet-Luge. I’ll hover above you and join us up.’

  Kai flew his jet above Will’s. Then he hit the double-battle-jet button on the dash and the two jets were joined.

  SQ1 flew around the two jets then said. ‘It’s a new battle jet!’

  ‘With more battling tools,’ said Kai. ‘We need to net the tails and battle the heads and arms all at once.’

  ‘SQ1 can fly in with the BG net shooter and net the tails,’ said Will.

  ‘The X-Foam Archer 2 comes apart,’ said Kai. ‘BC can take the fire shooter and dry up the three-headed beast’s last arm. I have a sleep gas blaster on my jet now. I’ll take the heads.’

  ‘And I’ll block the other beast’s arms with my new dirt jets,’ said Will.

  ‘BTG go! Go! Go!’ said Kai.

  When SQ1 and BC were ready they flew back into battle.

  ‘Let’s go for the three–headed beast,’ said BC. ‘While I dry up its last arm you net its tails.’

  Kai flew the new twin battle jet in between the beasts. Will spun his jet to face the two-headed beast and blasted dirt at its arms.

  Kai’s jet faced the three-headed beast. He blasted sleeping gas into the first head. It fell into a deep sleep.
r />   ‘All tail’s netted on the three-headed beast,’ said SQ1.

  ‘And the water is all dried up in its last arm,’ said BC. ‘Watch out! Ice and toxic breath attack coming your way,’ BC called to Kai.

  Kai turned his jet quickly and blasted sleeping gas at the two-headed beast’s ice mouth.

  ‘Two-headed beast’s arms blocked with dirt, Captain Kai,’ said Will.

  ‘Excellent team work, guys,’ said Kai as he put the last of the heads to sleep.

  ‘We battled well and won,’ said Kai. ‘I’m activating the ray cage now, BC.’

  Rays shot out from BC’s collar and formed a cage around the beasts. Then the team flew to the Outlands gates. ‘I’ve sent a message to the BMC,’ said Kai.

  The gates opened and BC put the mega-mutants inside.

  Kai turned BC’s ray cage off.

  When the gates were closed, Will said, ‘And that takes care of the mega-mutants.’

  ‘I don’t think so,’ said Kai. ‘I thought only two mutants had escaped when the gates weren’t working. But then there were these two. There could be more. But for now, it’s time to go home.’

  Kai’s orb sounded and he took it from his pocket. ‘It’s a captain’s alert from the BMC.’

  ‘The BMC are checking all the Outlands beast gates,’ said Kai. ‘I wonder what they’ll find? We’ll need to be ready. For anything.’
